BANNED FROM THE RENAISSANCE DK/LW (Sung to "Back in the U.S.S.R." by John Lennon & Paul McCartney) Last autumn we were playing in Columbia In the Sixteenth Century. Even though we thought the show went over well, Others thought that we should be Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance! Lo, what a kick in the pants, yea! Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance! Theodoric struggled to control his rage. He'd predicted trouble when He saw that the privvies were behind our stage. Aye, we got the message then: Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance! We couldn't sing, couldn't dance, no! Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance! On Saturday, Sir Francis Drake Approved the band he hired. On Sunday 'twas his news to break That services contracted of these singers Were no longer required! We became distressed to learn a certain group Thought our music didn't fit. Nay, we didn't stand a chance against the group Who forced the Boogie Knights to get Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance! They took away our big chance, yea! Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance! The merchants said that our little band Destroyed the atmosphere. But what we could not understand Was how these people got away with selling Pepsi, T-shirts and beer! Then we heard that Pennsylvania liked our band. So we took the show on tour. Left without a following in Maryland But returned with even more Fans from the Re-nai-sa-sance! The Pennsylvanians want us, oh, Back in the Re-nai-sa-sance! Now everybody wants us, yea, Back in the Re-nai- Back in the Re-nai- Back in the Re-nai-sa-sance! (Of course we still play the cons, yea.) Banned from the Re-nai- Banned from the Re-nai- Banned from the Re-nai-sa-sance!
